UNA Community Gardens Expansion Coming
Following a
review of the comments received at the Information Session at the Old
Barn Community Centre on Tuesday April 20 about the proposed expansion of
the UNA Community Gardens in Hawthorn Place, it has been determined that
the community gardens expansion will proceed and construction of the
gardens will commence shortly.

Avatar
is a 2009 American epic science fiction film. The
film is set in the year 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral
called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush moon of a gas giant in the Alpha
Centauri star system. The film's title refers to the genetically
engineered Na'vi-human hybrid bodies used by a team of researchers to
interact with the natives of Pandora.
Avatar was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best
Picture and Best Director, and won three, for Best Cinematography, Best
Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction.

VSB Proposal to Standardize Local School
Calendars
In
an effort to save $1M, the Vancouver School Board will be proposing to:
standardize the local school calendars for all elementary and secondary
schools
eliminate early dismissal days
add 16 minutes to each elementary school day
add 18 minutes to each secondary school day
add 10 additional school closure days
The proposal will
be presented to theVancouver School Board, Board of Trustees at a public
meeting on April 26, 2010. If you would like to voice your opinion
on the matter, you can do so:

As part of the Budget Input Process April 20. Those who wish to speak
at this meeting may register with the VSB Administrative Coordinator,
Secretary Treasurers Office at 604-713-5049 no later than two days
before the meeting.

Mr. Fox it is the story of one Mr. Fox and his wild-ways of hen

adventures. He has to put his wild days behind him and do what fathers do
best: be responsible. It is a tale of crossing the line of family
responsibilities and midnight adventure and the friendships and
awakenings of this country life that is inhabited by Fantastic Mr. Fox
and his friends.

to watch Fantastic Mr. Fox! Chairs will be provided, but
feel free to bring your own comfortable chair, blankets and

The Brain
Research Centre, together with UBC Let's Talk Science Program, UBC
Faculty of Medicine, and Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute is
hosting the second Vancouver Brain Bee. This is a neuroscience
competition for high school students (grades 10-12) that is styled after
a traditional spelling bee. We hosted the first Vancouver regional
competition last year to much success and
enthusiasm, and are hosting it again this year.
Students from grade 10 to 12 are invited to register for this free, fun
event. The winner of the Vancouver regional competition will receive
roundtrip airfare (out of Vancouver) for themselves and one
parent/guardian to participate in the National competition at McMaster
University on May 25-26, 2010.
