UTown Community Grants
Let’s build community together! $1,000 Community Grants available to be won!
UTown@UBC is your residential community on campus where over 18, 000 students, faculty, staff and other residents live, work and learn together. In the spirit of building community on campus the UTown@UBC Community Grants program, a joint initiative with the UNA, is awarding grants of up to $1,000 for projects that contribute to the social vibrancy of the campus community.
Funding Eligibility
All UTown@UBC residents — students, faculty, staff and other residents who live on campus are encouraged to apply.
Funding Criteria
Community Grants are awarded to projects that meet the following criteria:
- Contribute to the social vibrancy of UTown@UBC through fun, social or learning events, programs or activities where residents come together around shared interests
- Involve UTown@UBC residents in a specific event, program or activity. Projects can be:
- Plays, concerts or cultural celebrations
- Training workshops or seminars
- Lectures
- Recreational and sporting events
- Area restoration and cleanup projects
- Community garden projects
- Other ideas encouraged
- Create fun and unique opportunities where residents learn about their campus
- Demonstrate a plan to deliver the proposed project successfully

In this year’s UNA Election, six candidates are running for two Resident Director positions. All members of the UNA are encouraged to vote for their choice of directors. Come to hear what the candidates have to say and why you should vote for them. You will have a chance to meet them face to face and ask questions.
Free Community Access to MOA
We are pleased to announce that starting September 1, 2011, UNA Community Services Card holders can have free access to the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) and receive 10% off at the Museum Shop. All residents of the UNA are eligible for a free Community Services Card. Sign up now.

UNA Waste and Water Action Plan Working Group
Would you like to join a community working group to support waste reduction and water conservation in the UNA neighbourhoods? UBC is developing Waste and Water Action Plans and currently convening working groups to identify Action Plan priorities and actions. The UNA working group will focus on priorities and actions for the UNA neighbourhoods. Volunteers will be asked to review Action Plan background material and attend two workshops to be scheduled during May and June. Follow up meetings may also be scheduled. UNA-UBC Memorandum of Understanding on Sustainability
The UNA and UBC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance joint sustainability objectives as part of the UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI). The MOU identifies six priority initial areas of focus, including community engagement, energy conservation and efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, transportation and mobility and building standards. These focus areas will help the UNA achieve its sustainability goals of community engagement, energy conservation and emissions reductions, waste reduction and water conservation.
Earth Hour Celebration
To celebrate Earth Hour 2011, UBC Unplugged invites you to turn off your lights and come out and join students and campus residents. You will be able to learn about different sustainability initiatives and practices at booths from sustainability groups and sustainability oriented businesses (BC Hydro and other guests).
