<p>This committee will provide review and feedback to the UNA Board of Directors on a UNA Zero Waste Bylaw scope and draft. The committee is expected to meet spring through fall 2013.</p>

<p>This committee serves the UNA Board of Directors to consider policies and programs related to the participation of UNA residents in community initiatives. The objective of the committee is to build the UNA into a vibrant, inclusive and involved community.</p>

<h2>Walk’n Roll</h2>
<p>Ensuring the safety of the community is C+CP and the UNA’s first priority. In addition to the new design changes, the UNA and UTown@UBC have partnered to host Walk n’ Roll; a fun, community-based initiative to encourage active transportation, promote a safe and walkable community and build support for a Walking School Bus. <a title="Walk n Roll" href="http://www.myuna.ca/2013/04/walkn-roll-to-school/" target="_blank">Learn more about the Walk &#8216;n Roll program</a>.</p>
<h2>Construction Schedule</h2>
<p>The improvements to West 16th Avenue will be phased in over the coming weeks and months.</p>
<ul>
<li>April 2013: Launch of Walk’n Roll Safe Walk to School routes program</li>
<li>April 2013: Provide MOTI with location for pedestrian crossing lights at Wesbrook Mall and West 16th Ave. roundabout.</li>
<li>April / May 2013: Install speed detection devices on the approaches to the Wesbrook Mall and West 16th Ave. roundabout.</li>
<li>April 2013: Start construction of East Mall roundabout and 16th Ave. improvements.</li>
<li>May to June 2013: Install tactile mats, and 30 km/hr speed limit signs.</li>
<li>April to August 2013: Throughout construction, there will be changes to lane configurations on each approach to the East Mall intersection, but a traffic management plan has been developed to maintain pedestrian and cyclist movement and safety. As construction progresses and lanes are re-opened to traffic, install regulatory signage (including school zone signs) and pavement markings.</li>
<li>September 2013: Anticipated completion of East Mall roundabout, mid-block crossing, and other 16th Ave. improvements including installation of flashing orange lights and pedestrian crossing signage at Wesbrook Mall and East Mall roundabouts.</li>
<li>Future Planning: Further traffic safety measures east of Wesbrook Mall.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Traffic Management</h2>
<p>Construction of the East Mall roundabout, 16th Avenue improvements, and Wesbrook Mall roundabout enhancements will begin in April 2013 and are expected to be complete by September 2013. More information will be posted here as construction progresses. Activities could include rock climbing, soccer, volleyball, bowling, and lots more!</p>

<p>UTown@UBC and the UNA have teamed up to promote healthy, active transportation<strong> </strong>in our community! So lace up your walking shoes, jump on your skateboard, bike or scooter and Walk ‘n Roll to School during Celebration Week May 27th to 31st!</p>
<p><strong>From bike safety checks to walking school buses to giveaways, </strong><strong>there will be lots of fun activities, great prizes and safety </strong><strong>initiatives throughout the week, including:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Pre-Celebration Week Bike Safety Check: </strong>Keep your bikes in tip-top shape with a little help from More Bikes! May 23rd at lunch at UHill Elementary and May 24th at lunch at UHill Secondary</p>
<p><strong>Walk’n Roll Kick Off : </strong>Wear yellow on Monday, May 27th to show your support for walking and biking! UHill Elementary and UHill Secondary students wearing yellow can pick up a treat at lunch from the Walk’n Roll team!</p>
<p><strong>Walking School Bus: </strong>Walking School Buses led by community volunteers will be available from each neighbourhood to University Hill Elementary School every morning May 27th -May 31st. University Hill Secondary students, meet up with friends at the designated times and locations to walk or ride to school! Meeting locations and times are included on the UTown@UBC School Routes map.</p>
<p><strong>Walk ‘n Roll Passport: </strong>Collect a stamp for each day you walk or ride to school. Hand your passport in at school on May 31st and you will be entered to win great prizes! Check out the UTown@UBC School Routes map to find out where to get your passport stamped each morning.</p>
<p><strong>RCMP Speed Watch at Chancellor Boulevard and at West 16th: </strong>Speeders beware; the RCMP will be on watch throughout the week!</p>
<p><strong>Roundabout Guides: </strong>Staff will be at the roundabout after school on Monday, May 27th to help students practice safely crossing a roundabout.</p>
<p><strong>Walk ‘n Roll Celebration Rally </strong>on May 31st at UHill Elementary at recess and UHill Secondary at lunch. The grand prize draw includes a new bike from More Bikes!</p>
