You’ll try simple exercises for balance\, flexibility\, and confidence while learning lifestyle strategies that support your well-being. \nDr Farah Shroff is a Harvard-educated global public health leader who specializes in mind-body wellbeing\, women’s health and social justice. She is also a teacher of yoga\, dance\, and other mind-body practices. She founded Health Together\, a global public health collaborative\, and teaches at UBC in the Faculty of Medicine.

Everyday Nutrition for Healthy Aging Enjoy a lively\, bilingual workshop designed for older adults. Learn about healthy eating\, practical nutrition tips\, and strategies for healthy aging. Bring your questions for our dietitian Raihan Hassen and nutrition student Diana Bratu! Participation in English or Mandarin is welcome\, and a translator will be available. \nSpeaker: Raihan Hassen is a registered dietitian who earned her dietetics degree and her MSc in Human Nutrition at UBC. She is passionate about growing\, cooking\, and understanding food and how it shapes our health and communities. She joined the BC Brain Wellness Program in 2025 leading the nutrition programs. Raihan has previously worked in research\, long-term care\, and public health. \nDiana is a third-year Dietetics student with a passion for nutrition and wellness education. She’s dedicated to making preventative health interventions accessible to everyone through community-engaged initiatives. \nThe BC Brain Wellness Program offers evidence-informed lifestyle and wellness programs for individuals living with chronic brain conditions\, their care partners\, and healthy agers. The program empowers individuals to tailor their participation to physical and cognitive abilities\, rather than diagnostic labels. As the main outreach arm of the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health at UBC\, the program’s ongoing delivery of classes supplements traditional medical care and can lead participants to a better quality of life.

We will cover common eye conditions in seniors and introduce simple eye exercises for daily comfort and eye health! \nUBC Vision Health is a student-led initiative at the University of British Columbia dedicated to promoting awareness\, education\, and access to eye health and vision care in the community. This seminar will highlight recent research on the benefits of nature and include an interactive workshop where participants can discuss and explore ideas for meaningful outdoor activities. \nUBC’s Centre for Research on Personhood in Dementia (CRPiD) is dedicated to advancing research that supports individuals living with dementia and fosters stronger communities. Dementia in the Outdoors is a CIHR funded research project that aims to better understand how people living with memory loss benefit from spending time outdoors and how we can further develop inclusive outdoor programming.

By combining students’ energy and curiosity with older adults’ lived experience and wisdom\, the lab creates spaces where technology and ideas are shared. Registration is required. \nJune 18: Healthy Hearts\, Healthy Lives: Social Connection and Heart Health\nThis talk will review the science of social connections and survival\, the gaps in heart disease research on social connections\, and the current results of new studies on which social connections affect the risk factors of heart health in both women and men in mid to later life.\nSpeaker: \nA former CIHR Postdoctoral Fellow (2014) and Gates Cambridge Scholar (2011)\, Dr. Annalijn Conklin is an associate professor at UBC and leads a program of social epidemiology and metabolic outcomes research (SEMOR) to support healthy aging and reduce heart health inequities in women in Canada. Using both quantitative and qualitative research methods\, Conklin examines how broader social determinants\, such as social ties or job loss\, impact cardiovascular risk factors differentially for women and men.
