SUMMARY:Falling Out of Time
DESCRIPTION:“I am not a man of faith. I cannot console myself with the thought of life after death. But writing this book\, and listening to Osvaldo’s music being born\, taught me something: it is true that no one knows what hides behind the impenetrable wall of death. But there is one place\, or rather one dimension\, where we can feel\, if only for an instant\, both the absolute nihility of death and the full abundance of life. And that dimension is art.” \n– Novelist David Grossman \nFalling Out of Time is a new work from the Grammy-winning composer Osvaldo Golijov. Rooted in David Grossman’s novel of the same name\, this infinitely nuanced story in voices narrates a profound journey of grief and solace\, a journey “out of time” as parents grieve the death of a child\, a quest to comprehend a loss with no name. \nThe ensemble’s goal in touring this piece is to create a commons for our collective anguish and grief\, a space for all who need it. Falling Out of Time speaks for the essential human need to gather with one another to feel our full humanity: without a smile\, perhaps\, but with a heart cracked open. \n\nDan Brantigan\, Trumpet\, Flugelhorn\nHannah Collins\, Cello\nShawn Conley\, Acoustic bass\, Electric Fretless Bass\nBiella da Costa\, vocals\nNoam Enbar\, vocals\nNora Fischer\, vocals\nJeremy Flower\, Electric Guitar\, Modular Synthesizer\nJohnny Gandelsman\, Violin\nMario Gotoh\, Viola\nKayhan Kalhor\, Kamancheh\, Shah Kaman\nShane Shanahan\, Percussion\, Drum Set\nMazz Swift\, Violin\nReylon Yount\, Yangqin\n\nConcert generously supported by The Azrieli Foundation\, The Arnold and Anita Silber Family Foundation\, and Isaac and Judy Thau

SUMMARY:Re-Creation: Community Art Project
DESCRIPTION:Re-Creation: A Community Art Project is an initiative that engages community members in the creation of a public art piece that will be displayed at the heart of Wesbrook Community Centre. This project’s creative direction will be led by Yasaman Moussavi\, a professional artist who is an art instructor at the UNA and a resident living in the community. \nThrough collaborative art making\, this project aims to raise environmental awareness and foster a feeling of solidarity within the community. Participants work together to turn waste into an art (repurposing newspapers\, magazines\, letters) while creating dialogue about environmental issues. This collaborative art project provides a creative tactile experience while cultivating community building. \nThis expressive piece will add vibrancy\, animate the community centre and remind us of the power that art has to create dialogue and bring people together. \nThe workshop is free\, but registration is required. Drop-ins are available depending on availability. Register here.
