SUMMARY:Going back to School: Children's Emotional Well-being
DESCRIPTION:Learn about how parents and other caregivers can support children’s emotional well-being in the transition back to school. \nThe start of this school year can be a stressful time for many families. Going back to a changed school environment\, after spending a lot more time at home and apart from others\, may make this year’s back-to-school transition more challenging than previous years. Guided by research in social and emotional development\, this online workshop offers caregivers useful information and practical strategies for supporting their own and their children’s emotional well-being during this period of change. \nAbout the Facilitator \nAngela Low is a specialist in emotional intelligence and child development\, dedicated to bringing social and emotional learning (SEL) to the forefront of communities that support children\, youth and their families. Angela has been developing educational resources and facilitating workshops on emotional intelligence for 12 years in China and Canada. In Vancouver\, she works with the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education\, YWCA\, YMCA\, VPL\, and various school districts and community centres to integrate SEL into community programs. \nJoin the Online Workshop

The largest of Magnolia flowers are found on the Asian deciduous species\, their selections and hybrids. Magnolias in this group produce flowers on naked stems in very early spring\, before leaf emergence. This group is particularly well represented in the David C. Lam Asian Garden and plants in bloom—many of which are large trees\, 10m tall or more—typically elicit much picture taking and gasps of pleasure by garden visitors. \nJoin Douglas Justice (Associate Director\, Horticulture and Collections) for a special one-hour tour of the magnificent magnolia trees planted throughout the Garden. \n  \nVisit our website to register. \n  \nImportant Notes: Space is limited\, register online to secure your spot! While children are always welcomed\, these tours are targeted for an adult audience. Please dress for the weather and bring footwear suitable for all terrains. Tours will go ahead rain or shine. \nParking: Free visitor parking for 3 hours\, provided you enter your license plate. \nCancellation Policies: A $5.00 processing fee per attendee is charged if cancellation notice is less than 7 days prior to your scheduled tour. There is no fee for transferring the registration to another person. Cancellations can be made by contacting garden.programs@ubc.ca.
