The Board of Directors of the University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Thorkelsson as the organization’s next Chief Administrative Officer, effective January 22, 2024.

Paul brings to the position a deep passion for good governance, transparency, fairness and diversity. He is excited about the opportunity to contribute his skills and experiences to the UNA. Paul’s experience is broad and deep as well: municipal, private industry, as an elected official and 11 years as a Chief Administrative Officer.

Paul’s education includes a graduate degree in Architecture from UBC and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria. He has also completed the highest certification in Local Government – the Executive Management Certificate – from the B.C. Board of Examiners.

The UNA Board of Directors is delighted to welcome Paul as the next Chief Administrative Officer of the UNA. Paul’s interests and skills will help the UNA in its leadership and municipal-like role within the community amidst UBC’s rapid growth and development. In addition, Paul’s administrative skills will ensure the UNA will continue supporting and cultivating a flourishing university neighbourhood community.

The UNA Board of Directors would like to express our sincerest thanks to Interim Co-Chief Administrative Officers Athena Koon and Wegland Sit who jointly took over the role from Sundance Topham, while the search for the new Chief Administrative Officer took place.
