During their June 21, 2022 meeting, the UNA Board of Directors passed a motion to send a letter to UBC Campus + Community Planning calling on UBC to fulfill the promises of the Wesbrook Neighbourhood Plan by building at least one additional outdoor facility to meet the recreational needs of youth. The letter also states the Board’s hope that plans for future neighbourhoods will include a full range of outdoor recreational opportunities that serve residents of all ages and abilities.

The letter was written after plans of building a basketball court in Wesbrook Place were withdrawn due to pushback from a number of residents concerned about noise in the only space deemed available (given the constraints of the neighbourhood plan and the development priorities of UBC Properties Trust). Feedback received from residents led the UBC Development Permit Board to pause the project and, ultimately, the UNA Board to withdraw the proposal.
