Use, Enjoy, Return

The UNA Community Toy Box is a free shared play initiative designed to make outdoor play more fun, accessible, and sustainable for everyone. Currently in two locations, families can borrow toys and play equipment and return them when they’re done so others can enjoy them too.

The Toy Boxes are part of a UNA Green Depot pilot project that supports reuse, community sharing, and creative outdoor play.

How It Works

  1. Choose a toy or play item from the Toy Box
  2. Enjoy it during your park visit
  3. Return it when you’re finished

That’s it! By sharing and reusing toys, we can help reduce waste while creating more opportunities for fun and connection in our community.

Rules & Guidelines

Please help keep the Toy Boxes clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone:

  • Caregivers are responsible for supervising children while using items from the Tox Boxes.
  • Treat all items with care and respect.
  • Take only what you will use during your visit.
  • Place toys back inside the Toy Box after use.
  • The Green Depot team inspects and cleans toy donations before they are made available for use. Please drop off all toy donations at the Green Depot.
  • Do not leave garbage or hazardous items inside the Tox Box.
  • Unsafe or unsuitable items may be removed by the Green Depot team.

Why Shared Toy Boxes?

The UNA Community Toy Boxes are built around the idea of reuse and sharing. Instead of buying new toys for every park visit, families can enjoy shared items already available in the community. Together, we are:

    • Reducing waste by keeping toys in use longer
    • Supporting low-cost and accessible recreation
    • Encouraging sharing and community care
    • Creating welcoming and joyful public spaces
    • Supporting local climate action and sustainability goals by promoting reuse
    • Advancing circular initiatives aligned with the Neighbourhood Climate Action Plan (NCAP)

A Community Effort

The Toy Boxes are stocked with donated toys and recreational items collected through the Green Depot. The Green Depot team regularly inspects, cleans, organizes, and restocks the Toy Boxes as needed. Community members are also encouraged to help keep the toys and boxes tidy for everyone. To donate toys, please visit the Green Depot.
