Governance Framework

Constitution and Bylaws

The UNA is a non-profit organization incorporated under the BC Societies Act. The UNA’s Society Members approve the organization’s constitution and bylaws at a general meeting. The UNA Constitution sets out the purposes of the organization. The UNA Bylaws prescribes the rules respecting the internal affairs of the UNA.

Neighbours Agreement

The Neighbours Agreement is a relationship agreement between the UNA and UBC, outlining the responsibilities of both parties with respect to each other and the neighbourhoods on campus. In addition, this agreement prescribes the UNA’s authority and responsibility as a provider of certain municipal-like services in the neighbourhoods.

On occasion, the UNA and UBC will revise the Neighbours Agreement to reflect any changes in the responsibilities between both parties with respect to each other and the UNA’s role in the neighbourhoods. In 2024, the UNA and UBC agreed to a new agreement, the Neighbours Agreement 2024.

UNA Board Policies

The UNA Board of Directors establishes Board Policies to provide directions regarding the activities and internal affairs of the UNA. These policies can affect a wide range of aspects of the UNA, such as governance, finance, human resources, and recreation.

Please note that this page only contains the UNA’s Board Policies that have been recently reviewed or approved. Some Board Policies are old and out-of-date, and will be reviewed before published on this page. For any questions, please contact administration@myuna.ca.

Neighbourhood Regulations

The UNA Board of Directors may make and implement Neighbourhood Regulations for the neighbourhoods, similar to regulatory by-laws in other municipalities. These Neighbourhood Regulations can concern matters in the neighbourhoods, such as noise control, parking, fines, and dispute resolution.
