From June 11 to July 19, 2026, Vancouver will join cities across Canada, Mexico, and the United States in hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026™. UBC is a partner to the Province of BC and City of Vancouver for this initiative and preparing to play a significant role in the tournament’s operations, with the National Soccer Development Centre (NSDC) on campus serving as a team base camp training site for Canada’s Men’s National Team and and other international teams.

UBC has advised the following regarding impacts to UNA neighbourhoods:

  • Traffic Volume: UBC has noted that daily movement to and from the NSDC will involve one or two buses. This is a significantly lower traffic volume than the Congress event held last April 29.
  • Parking Closures: While no major road closures are planned for the NDSC, the parking lot adjacent to the field will be closed to provide operational clearance and ensure safety.

UBC will continue to provide information and resources regarding potential operational impacts, facility access, and ways in which the UBC community can engage with this global event on their website: soccer2026.ubc.ca.

Soccer in the Square

Jun 11-Jul 19 | Norman MacKenzie Square

From June 11 to July 19, community members, students, families, and visitors are invited to gather and enjoy live broadcasts of matches from the internationally celebrated soccer tournament, hosted in part in Vancouver. The events offer a welcoming, accessible space to come together and share in the games’ energy. The event is pet-friendly (for leashed dogs), and visitors can take advantage of two-hour complimentary parking nearby.

During the events, tents will be set up along Shrum Lane and will require a closure of the lane. Please refer to signage and detours around Wesbrook Village.
