EV Fast Chargers on Ross Drive 

Three new direct current (DC) fast chargers installed on Ross Drive are providing more charging options for electric vehicle drivers in the UBC community.

The new BC Hydro charging site features six charging ports, with up to six vehicles able to charge at the same time. The 180 kW fast chargers can provide an average electric vehicle with approximately 180 kilometres of driving range in about 10 minutes. The stations support both CCS and NACS connectors, making them compatible with a wide range of electric vehicles.

The Ross Drive site complements BC Hydro’s existing charging station at Wesbrook Community Centre. Together, the two locations now offer eight charging ports for EV drivers in the UBC area, with additional expansion planned.

The new chargers were made possible through collaboration between the UNA, UBC Campus and Community Planning, and BC Hydro. The project supports efforts to expand lower-emission transportation and energy options for residents and advances broader sustainability priorities shared by the partner organizations.

Representatives gathered on July 29 to officially open the Ross Drive site. UNA Board Chair Eagle Glassheim welcomed attendees, followed by remarks from Carole Jolly of UBC Campus and Community Planning, and a demonstration of the new chargers by Scott Petrie of BC Hydro.

The project is one example of the ongoing collaboration between the UNA and UBC on community sustainability initiatives and supports the broader Neighbourhood Climate Action Plan.
