June 2, 2023 News

UNA residents, please be informed that the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) is currently holding a public consultation on an event-driven liquor primary license for the Thunderbird Stadium (6288 Stadium Road).

UBC Campus and Community Planning has informed the UNA that this is an administrative change moving towards operational efficiencies for the department and for UBC. UBC was encouraged by the LCRB to apply for a permanent liquor license for events at the stadium because, currently, the stadium does not have a liquor primary license and previous events have been operated under a Special Events Permit (SEP). This means UBC Athletics and Recreation has had to apply for an SEP every time an event is held at the stadium where alcohol is served.

The LCRB notice posted outside the stadium states:

  • Proposed licensed hours are: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Seven days a week.
  • Person capacity will be limited to 15,606 persons exterior (stadium seating, field and viewing area surrounding field) and 350 persons interior.
  • Residents located within a 1 mile (1.61 km) radius of the proposed site may comment on this proposal by writing or emailing:

  • Please note that comments may be made available to the applicant or local government officials where disclosure is necessary to administer the licensing process.
