As part of the UBC Renewable Energy Hub project, the Hydrogen Refuelling Station will begin construction on Thunderbird Boulevard this week. Construction for the UBC Renewable Energy Hub will be located on the south-west side of the Thunderbird Parkade and the adjacent areas.

This will be a multi-phase project running from November 29,, 2021 to the end of August 2022. The first phase will go from November 29th through to December 19th resulting in a closure of the westbound lane of Thunderbird Blvd from west of the Thunderbird Parkade to Health Sciences Mall. The rest of the phases will approximately run as follows:

  1. Thunderbird Boulevard westbound closed from Thunderbird Parkade to Health Sciences Mall – Nov 29th to Dec 19th.
  2. Thunderbird Boulevard fully closed between Thunderbird Parkade and East Mall  – Dec 20 to Dec 23rd (including night shifts).
  3. Thunderbird Boulevard westbound closed from Thunderbird Parkade to Health Sciences Mall – Dec 25th to March 27th.
  4. Thunderbird Boulevard fully closed between Thunderbird Parkade and East Mall  – March 28th to May 15th.
  5. Thunderbird Boulevard westbound closed from Thunderbird Parkade to Health Sciences Mall – May 16th to August 19th.

During this work, pedestrians will be detoured to the south side of Thunderbird Boulevard and the closest detour route for vehicles will be 16th Avenue to East Mall.
