UBC Campus and Community Planning has providing updates regarding road closures around UBC due to construction or large events happening during the Summer and Fall seasons.

Residents are advised to please plan your commute accordingly.

DES Work on University Boulevard between Wesbrook Mall and East Mall until August 19, 2023

  • University Boulevard westbound lane is fully closed to allow for the install of new DES pipes.
  • Two-way local traffic accommodated in eastbound lane of University Blvd.
  • Pedestrians detoured to south side, as required, throughout construction.
  • All buses detoured to UBC Bus Exchange via diesel buses.

Walter Gage Road CLOSED for Brock Commons

  • Walter Gage Road east of East Mall will remain closed until Spring 2024.
  • Pedestrians are also detoured around the site as shown in the attached plan.
  • Brock Commons North to be opening in late August 2023, however, Walter Gage Road and sidewalks will remain closed.

Food and Beverage Innovation Centre

  • Located on the south side of Hospital Lane between East Mall and Health Sciences Mall.
  • Hospital Lane between East Mall and Health Sciences Mall is fully closed (deliveries to School of Population and Public Health accommodated).
  • Pedestrians are detoured to the north side of the School of Population and Public Health building as shown in the attached plan. New sidewalk along north side of Hospital Lane to be opening soon.

Repairs to Thunderbird Boulevard in front of Transportation Testbed

  • The westbound lane of Thunderbird Blvd will need to be closed for a few days to accommodate a road repair. Dates are unknown, but signage will be installed in advance to give frequent users warning.
  • Fencing remains in place around the fueling area until all permits and approvals to operate are in place.

New project, Beaty Expansion

  • An expansion to the Beaty Biodiversity Centre is underway. It has resulted in some closures to typical pedestrian, cyclist and service vehicle routes as shown in the attached.
  • Construction will be ongoing through 2023/24.
